Foundation

The need for an English Medium School in the area inspired our Founder- Secretary to Convene a Society that held its meeting in September, 1981. Within a few months our School began its journey in the sphere of education on 12 January, 1982, with 26 students. It was the birthday of a philosopher and social transformer whose guidance continues to serve as a beacon in the world of education and man-making – Swami Vivekananda. Initially housed in the rented backyard of a building, the School grew despite overwhelming odds, thanks to the unyielding courage and complete dedication of its Founder Secretary Mr. B.K.Datta. At a time when English medium Schools were beginning to become a craze in the educational firmament of Bengal and when many jumped into the bandwagon to establish such schools, it is not surprising that this School stands as one among many which stood the test and tribulations of time with most other schools set up in the vicinity at that time losing their existence.

As we recollect those days, we cannot but express our gratitude to some well- meaning individuals who went out of their way to see that such a School flourishes in the area. Initially, beginning with Class V, this School grew from strength to strength adding one class every year until it got the No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Government of West Bengal for affiliation to Council for Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. Our first batch of students appeared for ICSE- (x) Examinations in 1994.

In its expanding vision and desire to provide the best possible education to its students, the School changed its address until it built its own building at 181, Andul Road. With a never – yielding attitude our Founder- Secretary went ahead with procurement of land for a more spacious building to accommodate ever increasing number of students. Accordingly, the School purchased land at 34/26/1, Andul 1st Bye Lane (near Water Treatment Plant) as well as in its immediate vicinity, and began constructing a spacious four storied building to house the latest infrastructural and pedagogic amenities for our students. Overcoming various odds and tribulations, the School began functioning in the new premises in 2002 and a number of classes were shifted there soon.
